We are currently looking for TWO interns to work with our organisation this summer. Applicants should preferably be a law undergraduate or have business communications background.

Programme Objective
Our Internship Programme is designed for people who demonstrate a strong interest in working in the area of Corporate Social Responsibility, specifically in CSR Strategy and Policy, Community Investment and Diversity (including Work-life Balance).

Although we are interested in receiving applications throughout the year, we do recommend that interested
individuals apply early for summer and winter sessions as we can only accept a limited number of interns during these peak holiday times.

Features of the Programmes

  • In-depth Research
Community Business conducts research related to Community Investment, Diversity in the Workplace and the broader subject of Corporate Social Responsibility. Our research projects vary and we encourage our interns to take initiative in the areas they are interested in and propose new ideas and angles.

  • Events and Public Relations
Community Business organises a number of workshops and seminars throughout the year, both for its members and the broader business community in Asia . Our interns have the opportunity to assist in event management, marketing, press relations and media research.

  • Involvement in other activities of Community Business
Community Business is frequently invited to deliver speeches, workshops and participate in CSR events. We give our interns the opportunity to participate in these events and interact with people from all sectors to discuss the subject matters.

  • Flexibility
Community Business values the independent research ability of interns. They may enjoy flexibility with regard to workplace and work hours.

Remuneration
Unfortunately, we are unable to pay our interns.  However we are able to reimburse them for expenses directly related to research work, which are agreed beforehand. We will provide a letter of reference upon request.

Requirements

  • Language requirements
Our research is predominantly conducted in English.  All interns are expected to have a high level of English proficiency. However, increasingly we are producing bi-lingual versions of our publications, so spoken and written fluency in Chinese is a greatly valued skill.

  • Length of Internship
The minimum internship period offered by Community Business is two months or 8 weeks. We welcome interns who are able to work with us for longer.

Application Procedures

Please send your application by email to winnie@communitybusiness.org.hk with a cover letter and CV and clearly stating:

  • which area of work you are interested in and why

  • the period of time you can commit to Community Business

Please note we do not accept applications by fax or post. Application without cover letter will not be considered. Successful applicants will be contacted.

Summer Internship:  5 June - 4 August 2006

Working at Community Business as a summer intern is a great opportunity to get experience in an non-profit organization that has a vision for a better future. Community Business works with some of the leading corporations in Hong Kong, and as an intern, you have the opportunity to really give valuable feedback in setting the course for corporate social responsibility in Asia . As an intern, you immediately become a part of the close-knit team. If you are looking to make a real change in the world, this is definitely a great place to start.

Summer Internship:  12 August - 6 September 2005

My summer internship with Community Business was an eye-opening experience.
This was no typical internship involving mundane tasks such as serving tea and coffee:
my priorities as an intern largely comprised of research, writing and innovation.
It was a rare opportunity to work with dynamic people determined to influence change,
where I too, was able to make valued contributions. All in all, it was a rewarding
experience which I feel will serve me well in the future.

Sabrina Kwauk
Cornell University
Major: Biology and Society
Summer Internship:  30 May - 5 August 2005

Interning with Community Business has been one of my most memorable and rewarding experiences.  I learned a great deal about corporate social responsibility, the working
world, and how a small nonprofit organization operates, and significantly improved my
research, writing and communication skills.  My most notable work as an intern
included co-authoring "The Hong Kong Report on Corporate Social Responsibility",
which was submitted to APEC; and compiling the evaluation booklet for  'Race for
Mentors", an employee volunteering program for Credit Suisse. I highly recommend this
internship to anyone interested. Not only do you get free food in the office, but you also
have the opportunity to work with and an amazing group of staff.

Sabrina Lau
Hong Kong University
Major: Criminal Justice & Psychology
Summer Internship: 4 July - 19 August 2005

My summer internship at Community Business has been fruitful and eye-opening.  The
experience has granted me unique exposure to both corporate and community-based
work.  I have witnessed the success of our service project with internationally renowned
corporations, such as Credit Suisse First Boston; I have also attended project
presentations and competitions held by local universities. The internship requires
extensive research, which was either directly presented to corporations or used to help
Community Business explore potential project topics. Helping Community Business
promote "Corporate Social Responsibility" couldn’t have been more meaningful and
encouraging.  The collegial spirit in the office has effectively promoted that further: Every
colleague knows each other on a personal basis - communication is open and effective;
you can’t help but feel the strong sense of collaboration and teamwork!
