Women on Corporate Boards - An International Perspective

Professor Susan Vinnicombe OBE MA PhD MCIM FRSA
Professor of Organisational Behaviour and Diversity Management
Director of the Leadership and Organisation Development Community
Director of the International Centre for Women Leaders

She is Director of the trailblazing executive programme for senior women managers/ directors, 'Women as Leaders'.  Susan's particular research interests are women's leadership styles, the issues involved in women developing their managerial careers and gender diversity on corporate boards. Her Research Centre is unique in the Europe with its focus on women leaders and the annual Female FTSE 100 Index is regarded as the UK 's premier research resource on women directors.

Susan has written eight books and numerous articles. Her most recent books are "Working in Organizations" (with A. Kakabadse and J. Bank - Gower, 2004) and 'Women with Attitude: Lessons for Career management', (with John Bank, Routledge, 2003). She is currently writing two books, "Managing Workforce Diversity : A Global Challenge" (Pearson 2007, with John Bank) and "Women on Boards - an International Perspective" (Edward Elgar, 2008, with D. Bilimoria, R. Burke, M. Husen and V. Singh).

Susan has consulted for organisations across the globe on how best to attract, retain and develop women executives. Susan is regularly interviewed in the press and on the radio and television for her expert views on women directors, and is frequently asked to speak at conferences. She is on the editorial board of 'Group and Organization Management', 'Women in Management Review' and 'Leadership'. Susan is a judge for Management Today's annual "50 Most Powerful Women" and "35 Women Under 35 to Watch", Asian Women of Achievement Awards and the European Women of Achievement Awards. Susan is Vice Patron of Working Families. Susan was awarded an OBE for her Services to Diversity in the Queen's New Year's Honour List on in 2005.

Adrian Hodges
Managing Director, International Business Leaders Forum (IBLF)

Adrian Hodges specialises in issues of corporate responsibility as they relate to international business strategy and practice. He has managerial experience in business, local government and non-governmental organisations. He joined IBLF in 1998 and before becoming Managing Director held a number of positions, including Director, the Americas and Director, Marketing and Communications.

Prior to IBLF, Adrian was worldwide Head of Corporate Communications for retailer Body Shop International and before that Director of Communications and Marketing for Business in the Community.

He has lived and worked in Latin America and the United States and is currently based in London

  • Illustrates how global change - in technology, markets, demographics and popular values is impacting on companies
  • Highlights rising expectations from key stakeholders, who demand transparency and accountability throughout a product's lifecycle and along extended supply chains

  • Explains how power drivers forcing companies to adopt stringent social, ethical and environmental standards simultaneously create largely untapped opportunities for product innovation, making development and non-traditional business models
  • Outlines both in theory and practice a seven-step process managers can apply to assess the implications of CSR on their business strategy and identify their own corporate social opportunities.

Helps business leaders and their managers understand how to assess the impact of corporate social responsibility factors on their core business strategy and operations and help them identify and prioritise between subsequent options and resulting business opportunities.  

 

 

Peter Brew
Director, Responsible Business Solutions of International Business Leaders Forum

 

Peter Brew oversees the governance and corruption, HIV/Aids, human rights, conflict and enterprise development programmes of IBLF. These programmes are developed in close consultation with business to make a difference at the operational level of corporations. He also leads IBLF's initiatives in China , Vietnam , the Philippines and Indonesia .

Before joining IBLF, Peter worked for 37 years in international employee benefit services, 30 of which were at senior executive level. He retired at the end of 1998 as Deputy Chairman of Sedgwick Noble Lowndes, where he had been Chief Executive in both Ireland and North America .

Peter founded the Employee Benefit Forum for China . He is a Fellow of the Pensions Management Institute, an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and an Honorary Fellow of the Pre retirement Association.
