Community Business and its member companies are dedicated to raising awareness of work-life balance as a business issue.  For three years running the Community Business Leadership Team (CBLT) has commissioned public research to assess the state of work-life balance in Hong Kong .

We found in the 2006 and 2007 surveys that Hong Kong workers in general work very long hours and that a poor work-life balance has an adverse impact on productivity, work quality, personal relationships as well as staff health.  In response we have published a collection of case studies to inspire, instruct and guide companies – no matter what industry or size – to think of new ways to improve the culture of work-life balance in their organisations.

The State of Work-Life Balance in Hong Kong Survey 2008 will be launched on Friday, 17 October 2008 at a Breakfast Seminar on “Work-Life Balance 2008: Is work-life balance getting better? .  The 2008 Survey tracks the shifts and changes of work-life balance trends in Hong Kong and provides suggestions on what employers can do to improve work-life balance for their staff.  Click here for more information to Breakfast Seminar.

We are looking to raise the profile of work-life balance further in 2008 by promoting Friday, 17 October 2008 as Work-Life Balance Day.  Companies are encouraged to identify some initiative that you will do to promote work-life balance on that day.  It could be as straightforward as encouraging all employees to leave on time, or providing healthy snacks in the pantry.  Or it could be a more elaborate programme involving your suppliers and clients to make them aware of your commitment to being a socially responsible employer.  It could be the opportunity to launch a new work-life balance policy or raise awareness of an existing one.

We encourage as many companies as possible to take part.  Simply sign up to let us know what your company will do to mark Work-Life Balance Day.  Your company logo and name will be added to the growing list of participating companies currently featured on our website.
